Connery utilized this period to star in a wide range of interesting adventure films, including John Boorman's "Zardoz" (1974), John Huston's "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975), John Milius's "The Wind and the Lion" (1975), Richard Lester's "Robin and Marian" (1976), and, in a crucial supporting role, Terry Gilliam's "Time Bandits" (1981). Still handsome and charismatic, Connery donned his toupee and returned to his most celebrated role for "Never Say Never Again" (1983). The film was a hit.

Sean playing Henry Jones, father of Indiana Jones

One very happy note occurred when Sean married Micheline Roquebrune in 1975. He and Micheline met while playing golf (one of his greatest passions) and they proved to be the perfect match, remaining happily married to this day.
As Connery entered the eighties, he was lured back into the role of Bond, James Bond. Connery followed up with the popular fantasy film,

"Highlander" (1986) and the successful international co-production "The Name of the Rose" (1986) before hitting a homerun with an Oscar-winning supporting role in Brian De Palma's adaptation of "The Untouchables" (1987). Playing Malone, a sly and crafty old Irish cop, he easily eclipsed Kevin Costner, the film's ostensible leading man. The success of this film placed Connery firmly back on the A-list of modern Hollywood leading men often in older, fatherly roles (often older than his actual age). His renewed star shone particularly brightly in Steven Spielberg's third installment of the Indiana Jones series, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (1989), as the father of Harrison Ford.

One of the most sought-after actors in the industry, Connery keeps busy regardless of whether his films hit or miss.

Connery's 90s credits include "The Hunt for Red October", "The Russia House" (both 1990), "Highlander II: The Quickening" (1991) and "Medicine Man" (1992). In "Rising Sun" (1993) Connery was teamed with Wesley Snipes in a police drama with international ramifications. Connery took a little break but came back in "Just Cause" (1995) as a retired teacher practicing the law. In the same year he also made "First Knight" (1995) and "A Good Man in Africa" (1995). Another movie he played in was  "Dragonheart" (1996) in which he was asked to be the voice of Draco the dragon. In "The Rock" (1996), he gets the role of an ex-spy, ex-convict who has to get into Alcatraz so to save San Francisco from destruction with Nicolas Cage.

A few years later Connery starred in the romantic action movie "Entrapment" (1999) together with Catherine Zeta-Jones and a year later he brings the story of a tortured writer who befriends a talented hoops playing writer in "Finding Forrester" (2000).

Knightening by Queen Elizabeth II

In July of 2000, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. Throughout his life, Sir Sean Connery has been an ardent supporter of Scotland. While it is generally accepted that his support of Scotland's independence and the Scottish National Party delayed his knighthood for many years, his commitment to Scotland has never wavered.

Now in his 70's, Connery has decided to retire from film making. He was honoured with the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award on 8 June 2006.
