Daily Record Sir Sean Goes for a full set of clubs 20th January 2003
SIR Sean Connery has switched his footballing allegiance once again. The big-hearted superstar - who regularly watches both Rangers and Celtic games - has shunned the Old Firm in favour of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Connery has agreed to be honorary patron of one of Scotland's smallest supporters' associations. During a visit to the north of Scotland, the 72-year-old actor offered to help fans of the cash- strapped side. Now he is sponsoring a youth football tournament, run by Smithton and Culloden ICT, to be named "The 007-a-side". The star has sent a cheque from his Californian retreat and a signed yellow and gold SNP rugby top to be sold for charity at the event this spring. Yesterday, Smithton and Culloden chairman Jim McCreath said the star was the club's biggest signing yet. He said: "Sir Sean has been busy with filming, but we hope he may be cheering on Caley from the terraces before the season is out. "It is a tremendous feelgood factor for the club." |
