A SUSPICIOUS receptionist made Sir Sean Connery take a voice test when she failed to recognise the most famous Scots accent on the planet. Lynsey Mackay thought she was being wound up when the Bond legend called her school. The actor had been invited to reopen St Thomas of Aquin's secondary in Edinburgh - and called to cancel because of film commitments. But the call was answered by temporary receptionist Lynsey. And when she didn't believe him, the actor had to insist: "No, really, it's Sean Connery." It was only when he read details from his invite to the school that Lynsey, 23, finally realised it was him. Last night, she said: "It did sound like him but I thought it must be one of the janitors winding me up. "He asked to speak to the head teacher and I said she wasn't in and that the school was closed. It was only as the conversation continued I realised that must be true. It was him. "I think my disbelief was partly because he took the time and phoned in. You'd expect someone to phone for him or a letter to be written." Last night, head teacher Marian Docherty, 48, joked: "It should have been me that took that call and I can't believe I missed out. "Lynsey was delighted when she realised she was speaking to him." |
