Lucas hopes to 'push' Connery to appear in 'Indy 4'

June 9, 2006

Over the years (oh, the long years) of development on "Indiana Jones 4," all of the major players involved in the series have expressed interest at the prospect of Sean Connery reprising his role as Henry Jones, Sr.

With the long gestation on the project, however, and last year's announcement from Connery that he would be retiring from acting, question as to whether or not the man with the hat would be bringing his dad along for another go-round has surfaced.

George Lucas expressed his hopes for Connery's return to the fourth Indy film at last night's American Film Institute (AFI) tribute to Connery in Los Angeles.

"I would love him to be in the next 'Indiana Jones," Lucas told entertainment TV tabloid Access Hollywood. "Maybe I can push him into it."

Lucas confirmed previous talk from Steven Spielberg (and non-talk from Harrison Ford, who wouldn't spill info) that the story for the fourth film would in some way involve Henry, Sr.

"We are writing [Connery] in whether or he wants to do it or not," Lucas joked.

For his part, Connery has expressed a great affection for the series and the experience of working on "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." And despite generalized talk of Connery's retirement, the actor has worked on two projects since, including reprising his most famous role of James Bond in last year's "From Russia with Love" videogame, and the short animated film "Sir Billi the Vet."
