Given that overseas success,
Moviehole claims that Fox is considering filming a sequel
to LXG in Australia at either Sydney's Fox or
Kurnell studios.
"We've had numerous reports this week - from actors
and a source at Sydney's studios - who tipped us off to
such a state of affairs," Moviehole reports. "LXG
2 will re-cast many of the main parts excluding
Australian actress Peta Wilson who reportedly is
interested in reprising her role as Mina Harker for the
sequel - with auditions occurring shortly. A studio source
confirmed such a rumour."
While doing press for the first film, Wilson suggested
what she'd like to see happen in any potential sequel.
"If we go on for sequels, then maybe there'd be that
opportunity, where Mina gets to be in charge of
something."
Besides Mina Harker, the other Gentlemen included
in the first film were The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll/Mr.
Hyde, Tom Sawyer, Dorian Gray, Captain Nemo and Allan
Quatermain. Those who saw the first film know, however,
that at least two of those characters might not be back
for a sequel (although the ending certainly suggested one
of them could be).
If Sean Connery declines to return for LXG 2 then
perhaps he'll finally make the spy film End Game
instead. According to the Associated Press,
Connery, Mandalay Entertainment and producer Peter Guber
have reached an "amicable settlement" over the
stalled project and withdrawn their respective lawsuits.
The AP reports that "Connery still plans to
star in the movie. He and (producing partner Rhonda
Tollefson) are considering possible directors as well as
seeking new financing and distribution for the
picture." Then the Game is on!
